One of the best parts of my new house in Portland is my own writing room. It’s a small space behind the garage but it has a window for sunlight and room for plants, and it’s all mine. In California, I had to squeeze my writing space into my bedroom with a tiny desk and chair. No more! Right after moving, I treated myself to a new desk that has enough room to hold all my writing needs. I also just splurged on a chair that is not only comfortable but pretty. Even with the move, I’ve gotten some writing done here. I’m deep into revisions on my memoir-in-progress about my relationship with my late father, and have also been working on some short pieces. I do most of my work during co-writing sessions via Zoom with groups of writers who join in from all parts of the world. I have met people from Dubai, Vancouver and Uruguay. We all come together for accountability. I get a lot of writing done this way. In fact, I’m writing this during today’s session.
